Plaza de Independencia
This is the main square of the city. It is also known as Plaza Grande. If you are interested in mingling with local people, this is the best place. Most famous museum is Anthropological Museum which features the indigenous populations of Ecuador. Main highlight of the monument is its Equator Monument which is 30 meters high. At the top of the monument, you will find a brass sphere which represents the world. This complex is divided into two sections: northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere. La Catedral Church
This is among the most important religious sites in Quito. The church was built between 1562 and 1565 which makes it one of the oldest churches in the city. This church has seen several renovations. The Spanish city design of the church compels numerous people to flights to Quito. However, the structure is quite different from other buildings that feature Spanish city design. It is because its façade does not face the plaza. It has two entrances. Structure is highlighted by green ceramic dome. Shiny white walls add another tinge of beauty to the church. If you are fond of baroque styled architecture, take a closer look at the altar of La Catedral Church. The structure also features pointed arched naves which gives its gothic look. Interiors of the church are designed by people from Quito School of Art.
