Plaza de Independencia

La Catedral Church

This is among the most important religious sites in Quito. The church was built between 1562 and 1565 which makes it one of the oldest churches in the city. This church has seen several renovations. It is because its façade does not face the plaza. It has two entrances. Structure is highlighted by green ceramic dome. Shiny white walls add another tinge of beauty to the church. Santo Domingo Church

This 17^th century structure as designed by Francisco Becerra. Main altar features neo-gothic styled architecture. During the order of Saint Dominic, several people sacrificed their lives. If you want to peep into those times, visit the roof of the church. There are numerous paintings that depict the devotion of people who didn’t care about their lives.
